if you moved to a 5/6 team playoff in a 14 team league there would be too many teams not competing for anything. Teams that wont be in a wooden spoon battle or be in with a chance of the playoffs. At the moment clubs can aim for that 8th spot. teams such as Cas wont make the top 6 but wont finish in the bottom 3 either. however it does mean teams can just cruise through the league and win the GF like Leeds did. Maybe the best compromise would be a 12 team league 6 team playoff 23 matches freeing up space for the much talked about expanded WCC. With the possible introduction of a relegation play off as soon as it is reintroduced. Bottom 2 sides of SL against top 2 sides of championship.
