| Barry McKenzie has always endorsed helping out poorer nations.
If I see someone standing at the exit of my local supermarket collecting money for Africans with no water I will always donate.
Last November I put some money in the poppy appeal can some guy was holding.
I always donate to the RSPCA.
I'm lucky in that I earn big bucks off the Poms working over here in London so I can afford to give generously to your charities. It makes me feel good. I like to help out. Its the kind of guy I am. I live to give.
But I'm not entirely supportive of the NRL's seemingly recent policy of employing Poms in the NRL. If rumours are to be belived we may have THREE of them playing in the best league in the world next season.
There will be Ellis.....ummmm that guy who no one has ever heard of who has also joined the Tigers....and someone called Burgess (who I must admit I had never heard of until I started reading these forums).
As I've said I'm all for helping developing nations.....but somehow I think that having more than just one token pom in the NRL is a bit wrong.
I fully appreciate the fact we have to help these people out....but I'm not sure this is the best policy.
I would be more inclined to take on more PNG players ready for when we allow a PNG side into the NRL rather than go for the comedy value of hiring Poms.

How do you reckon that was in anyway shape or form a racist comment???
All I'm saying is that yes, we SHOULD be helping developing nations out.
But I think one pom at a time is ample.

| You do realise that Wests signed Ellis and therefore offered him a contract, and the same with Flanagan oh and loads of clubs are chasing after Burgess trying to get his sig!
You say it like they are being given to the sacred NRL, sorry but the NRL clubs want them!
Also, don't make out you don't want them in the NRL, no one gives a toss about you, you have no say in the matter!

| It immediately means declining standards in the NRL rather than the 'poms' actually producing players worthy of recognition from the colonies

I'm fully aware of how clubs hire players.
But thanks anyway.
As I have said I think it's a GOOD thing that the NRL are making an effort to help out developing nations.
I just question wether or not having any more than just the one Pom is a good idea.

Do you know what??
I sort of wondered the same thing myself.
I hope you are wrong.
I would hate to think the NRL was lowering it's standards just to help developing nations out

Please, just go away you boring little man.
Or at least click on the bit that says "NRL and Australian RL".
You're not funny, you're not clever, and your posts are nothing more than attempts to belittle England, the UK and Super League, whilst awaiting your opportunity to tell us just how wonderful Australia, the NRL, and everything Australian is. If I met you in a pub I'd have left by now. It's just a shame you keep getting replies.
I'm sure you, LF, fredie, dm et al are in fact one and the same person. Surely not all Ockers have the intelligence and wit of Vicky Pollard and suffer from small penis syndrome to such a chronic degree.

'Dally'
We have already established you are a Pom so therefore your opinion is not woth a cent.
If you want to continue being 'owned' on the Ellery Hanley topic thats up to you.
As I have already said, you poms like to build up your own players when they get a gig in the NRL or in the NSWRL. (NSWRL stands for New South Wales Rugby League by the way)
I fully understand you want to support one of your own, and good on you for doing that.
But we all know who the average players are/were and ultimately (like yourself) they get found out and owned big time.
Thanks for stopping by Pommie boy
Now why not go and comment on some soccer or something. Or better still google the Blue Mountains for the next time you pretend to be an Aussie

The suggestion that NRL clubs, or indeed any professional RL clubs, sign players to "help out" anybody but themselves shows how daft you really are. At a strategic level RL administrations may pursue policies designed to strengthen exapansion, the international game, or any number of other things that have commercial implications both in the short, medium and long terms, but clubs don't sign players out of the kindness of the hearts they don't actually have.
Besides there are plenty of ordinary players in the NRL, there are plenty of players wo have come from the being regulars in NRL sides, or even with big reputations, only to look fairly average in SL (admittedly this is mainly because the style of play in the respective league's is different and suits certainly players better than others).
No intelligent person doubts that Australia, where RL has a bigger player pool and higher status as a sport, produces a greater number of the more talented players, but anyone with even half a brain will also realise that the better British players are perfectly capable of playing in the NRL, and would be more inclined to do so if it was financially more lucrative. Yet we get moronic comments about how Adrian Morley was the best British player of his generation simply because he played in the NRL, when the reality is there are better British players in that cohort, except the NRL couldn't afford them.
