I can't even understand why it's being reported. It's just another (seemingly successful) attempt to attention grab.

It's a tough balance. If prisoners are to be reintegrated into society, they need to be treated well enough to enable that.



Treating people really harshly and giving them no comforts would likely just give them a mental illness before they were released and leave them bitter and resentful.



If, as in this case, the crime is seen as being so severe that a lifetime in prison is the only possible outcome morally, it really does provide a reason for the death penalty. After all, why spend loads of money on keeping a person imprisoned if you are going to treat them poorly?

Me personally, always disagreed with the death penalty no matter how guilty or good the evidence.

A cell with a mat, a pillow, a blanket and a bog, no windows.

1 hour exercise a day, water to drink only

Food being as cheap as possible, Porridge for breakfast (water not milk)

some cheap vegetables and pulses for lunch and dinner, served in your room.



No tv, no nothing, if they go crazy then that's part of the punishment and the reason i'm against the death penalty, i want them to suffer, i want them to get bored of the food and their life until they crack.

Sounds more to me like the Norwegians are publicising this to make it sound like they are being hard on him and stop criticism that they should have been tougher.

Whilst I agree that Breivik's list is taking the mickey (and rather bizarre), the clamour for his indefinite suffering makes me feel physically sick.



The problem is that the punishment that is imprisonment is misunderstood by many. Imprisonment is the denial of certain liberties, most obviously freedom of movement. Imprisonment is not about torture, harassment, enforced mental breakdowns or anything else the vigilante mob are screaming for.



Breivik's punishment is being served on him. Indefinite detention in a Norwegian jail is, in my view, an adequate and proportionate punishment. Let's not lose the moral high-ground by wishing on him what he inflicted on his victims. To do that makes us just as bad as him.

Go on then, highlight us them, or are you just trolling again?
