Might as well have one thread for the whole season like some of the other divisions - not a fresh one every week.



Ok, so here we go, week 1 (winners in bold):



Division 5, 4th Sept 2010:

Bury Broncos v Newton Storm

Crossfields A v Eccleston Lions

Rylands Sharks A v Bolton Mets

St Helens Wild Boars v Westhoughton Lions

Wigan Bulldogs v Chorley Panthers

Wigan St Cuthbert’s A v Widnes Tigers



Some hard ones to call here, some of the A teams look good on last year's form (albeit with several wins from conceded games for a couple) and tend to be stronger at the start of the year, but a lot can change with A teams from season to season. Anyhooo: obviously I'm going for Bury over Newton, Crossfields v Eccleston could be close but just gonna give it to Eccleston, if Bolton have their first choice lads from last year they should pip Rylands, Wild Boars will have too much for Westhoughton, I think Wigan over Chorley, and St Cuth's ran away with Div 6 last year meeting a Widnes team that struggled in Div 4.



Probably all wrong - most of those could come in either way, looks like this will be a competitive division!

eccleston lions have made a few good signings this year so should be a contender this season, were more or less un changed. should be a good season with the new teams looking forward to saturday just hope we get off to a winning start unlike last season when west houghton done us 1st game. good luck for season boys!!!

...but in answer to your questions (thanks mmp), KO is 2.30, we'll be there from 1ish, players arriving from 1.15.

Bury Broncos 38 - 22 Newton Storm





Good game, Bury started slow and let Newton in early, but then went away with a few tries to lead at half time. Newton never said die but I felt we were dominant and never really in danger of losing despite a 15 minute spell of stupid mistakes and some dodgy defence which Newton took advantage of. Gradually we pulled away and saw the game out. A few tasty hits and a little niggle (and a certain Newton centre tripping!!

), but all in good spirit.



Thought Newton did well considering their problems with numbers, they should go alright this year if they can keep the squad together.



Now to celebrate!!
