Not sure about any comparisons but Ellis captained us in the worst performance in the club's history and a pretty awful one at Wembley in an ordinary season. Even if it is accepted that the coaching was poor - and the jury's out on that in my view - there is no question that the players played one week and not the next. The Captain and other senior players can't just abrogate their responsibility in that. It is entirely reasonable to question whether the captain did his job and on the surface at least it his performance looks as inconsistent as the team so he didn't exactly do much to enhance his claims for next season. As with anything though , it's no good changing unless we're sure we've got a better candidate for the job.

| Standee its not possible for Ellis to be a worse captain then radturd. At least Ellis (when fit ) puts the minutes in ON the pitch where you need a captain. On a serious note on this theme of giving local lads a chance who better then Houghton for captain hull lad, puts the minutes in and leads by example, vice for me should be stilts for been a consistent performer and fans fav

| Quote GARETH Ellis says he will have no issue with Hull FC coach Lee Radford if he decides to select a different captain for 2014.
Ellis was handed the captain's armband at the start of this year, but question marks have been raised as to whether the former Wests Tigers star will keep the position.

Sounds like it might not be him. If he wants someone more vocal, has to Westerman, I'd have thought.

Houghton was vice captain last year wasn't he? Same as I said about Ellis , he was ineffective at Wembley and Huddersfield as a leader. Leading by example isn't enough it needs strategic thinking and a bit of psychology and I don't see Houghton as having those sort of attributes. Let him concentrate on improving his acting half play and passing. Agree about Rich Whiting but I guess it depends on whether he's likely to get the 13 shirt or not or at least be a starting back rower playing long minutes. For me Whiting would be 13 , captain and first name on the team sheet but then again I don't [iknow[/i whether he would want it or be any good at it. Captains/leaders tend to be natural choices in successful teams and often are long serving whilst we've chopped and changed and tried to manufacture ours.

Looking that way and I'm surprised, but should I be?
Nothing consistent at our club and we'll be also rans until there is.
He was Gentle's captain and it failed.
Radders possibly wants to stamp his mark?
