IMO the greatest player to wear the famous black and white. However he was tackled, he always made the ball available.

Always remember a game V Oldham in either '84 or '85 when Sterling was playing and got ted by alan mccurrie in front of Threepenny's. The ref did nothing so Knocker took things into his own hands and proceeded to smack mccurrie the next 3 times he got the ball before finally being sent off. Got one of the longest standing ovations I'v ever seen as he sauntered off to the changing rooms.
