Case closed then, wasn't good enough from Fitz to give away penalties, tiredness no excuse.
I thought we were playing very well in the first 15, then started losing discipline and allowing Rovers to play. They gained momentum and started to score through our poor and unorganised defence. We continued to give them the ball through holding on etc, giving them back to back sets in which they capitalised on. You can't score without the ball and we gave it away too easily. Started to look interested again in the last 5-10, but yet again too late in the day. I couldn't knock the effort of some of our players, but I am also angry at the cheap ball we gave away. We looked alright in attack and I think it would have been a different game completely if we kept our discipline.

An odd comment given that the one glimmer of light in the long dark tunnel of today's game was our improved attack.
Our discipline and defence is shocking. This is what will kill our season unless it's fixed pronto.

| Quote Chris28="Chris28"Very disappointing and I'm coming over to the Agar out side tbh
First 15 minutes we were on top, due in part to O'Meley and Radford making good ground and the backs capitalising on that. So both get subbed around the same time and we're starting again with Moa and Dowes. Why not leave one on and let them continue the way things were going?
Why did Fitz play the full 80 (although he may not have done, as I packed in watching with about 8 minutes to go). If anyone needs spelling it's him. Why have 4 forwards on the bench? Injury to a back means a wholesale reorganisation.
Why can't we cope when a team scores against us? We were comfortable then they scored and that was it.
Why play Briscoe at wing all last season and in the friendly at Cas, then put him in the centre today? In fact why play the friendlies at all? We don't seem to have benefitted, or used any of the good issues from those games. The comment was made in the commentary that we didn't seem to be fully match ready either.
Gutted to lose, especially to Rovers, but =#0000FFmost teams I've seen this weekend would beat us now. No progress since 2009. Yes we had some good moves and scored some good tries, and yes some players performed well. But one good move and a try will not win us games, nor get us within cooee of a trophy.'"
I'm finding it hard to come up with an argument against that. Only Salford and Wakefield I'd be confident against, and possibly Catalans although I didn't see all of that one.

So you think Fitzy should play for 80 mins ? Were not fit enough Tom by a long way there was no line speed after the first 15 mins , effort of some of the players isn't good enough it's a derby they should be well up for it .

| thought today showed that we really needed a quality no.6. we dominated the 1st 10 mins, but then again rovers didn't have any possession in that period. for me fitz gave 100% but had nobody with the same enthusiasm and just tried too hard. rovers looked like they could score every time they got into our 20, but i just don't have the same confidence when we get into the oppositons 20, our game looks erratic, laboured or trying to force the play, we just don't seem confident enough with ball in hand. long cannot do everything on his own. please hull sign a quality no.6!!!!!

| Dowes was/is garbage, nowhere near good enough. Gave away the penalty for the 1st try and is lightweight.
Lyne looked nervous and still out of place to me.
Fitzgibbon was poor, gave silly penalties away, including back to back ones which led to the 3rd try.
Briscoe wasn't great at centre, but he might get better with time.
Turner did the odd good play but was generally poor.
Westerman had a poor game, bad tackling led to Newton's try.
From a team point of view, our discipline was very poor. Gave away too many silly penalties, and one whilst we had the ball.
We failed to cope with Dobson's/Green's short ball to the second rower.
We made far too many handling errors, gave them far too much ball.

Jesus, whether he should play 80mins or not he still shouldn't be giving away penalties that much! Some of the efforts we'rent good enough, some were good too. Any positives from today's game or all doom and gloom, as per?
