I think the MoS will be ultimately decided through the playoffs.
JD has many qualities that would make him a Man of Steel but they won't be recognised by the voters unless he shows them in the playoffs and Wakefield win at least one if not two games.
Once recognised the leadership off the field factor would elevate him higher than the others but not if he doesn't get the chance to be seen.

Probably get slated for this but.. JD has not been consistant enough this season to get near MOS.
Started well - played terrible for a few games with MT and penalties/knock ons flooding in his game. Fair enough he was suffering from an injury but it was poor judgement on JD to delay getting his injury sorted for a number of weeks. I won't knock him for committment though as it is always top notch.
Now thats sorted but he's still not back to early season form just yet but looking better.

The Man of Steel award though is not given out to the most sportsman like, it's for the player who has performed at the very highest level, consistently thoughout the season. Not a knock on Demetriou at all, and if there are awards for 'Most Gentlemanly' of 'Most Sportsmanlike Behaviour' then yes, sure, but 'Best Player', I'm afraid not. |
