I don't think anyone said he SHOULD hang his boots. People are just offering opinion about how and where Obst would fit in if we were lucky enough to sign. JD by his own admission has said he hadn't made up his mind. I would like him to play again next season because he offers more than he gets credit for, however, I'm mindful of the cap and his salary counting towards it whilst he is player coach. If he were to retire maybe this would free up money to sign Obst?



Like GW says, he is feeling it and should do what's right for his body, himself and his family. If that means him donning a Cougar shirt next year happy days. If not, I'm sure he'll do a cracking job from the sidelines.



As for Jones at Full back. When he lined up against England I had my reservations, but apart from a couple of moments against NZ (not seen the Aussie game yet so can't comment) he played well. Think he'd be more effective at the halves, but he's shown his versatility.

It's all gone a bit quiet on the SL signing front. We can speculate about many players but until they are signed it's pie in the sky. Fingers crossed.

JD was the driving force behind the side last season, his winning attitude and mental toughness saw us through more than one game.



If he chooses not to play, he will be sorely missed, but this "non critical" season may be the time to concentrate on coaching and develop the team around a new nucleus. At times last year, we allowed our heads to drop, I'm sure some of his signings have been aimed at mental as well as physical backbone.



If Sam comes he will add experience and versatility to our squad and will be a great mentor to the young lads. However, if he doesn't, then this year may just be the time for the likes of Haythornthwaite, Sagar and Coleman to come to the forefront.



I am really looking foreward to this season.

Obst and Korki/JD are buddies and hang around together, Little Sam came over to the Haven game at Cougar park last season and will no doubt have been at the finals.



Sadly you won't be signing Lil Sam.

'Mates with JD' as well as 'Korki', but Sam also played for Whitehaven when he first came to the UK. Could that be the reason for his attendance?

i find this hard to believe with the club still growing i cannot imagine it been able to afford the wages of mr korkidas mr demetriou mr barnett mr march mr jones and a mr obst.



furthermore i believe we have jymel coleman possibly signing and lest we all forget about the impressive ryan smith.

i think the club should use what they have as from what ive seen we need no more additions to the squad. and i do think we shall be a force to be reckoned with.

JD has stated he will NOT spend what the club does not have so I trust his management of the squad budget. So far, some impressive signings and additions to the squad. IMO we are still light in a few positions and understand why JD is still exploring the market. No more additions? Seems a strange comment to me but everyone's entitled to their opinion.
