Are you suggesting they're not. Put it this way, both of them are in the top 4 best supported clubs in the north west, and liverpool is the 2nd best supported in england possibly uk.

distance from St.Helens to Liverpool = 13 miles

distance from Salford to Manchester = the width of the Irwell

13 miles is still in the catchment area......

St.Helens is a traditional rugby league town with a great and successful history of winning trophies on a regular basis - Salford isn't

I don't think the comparison with Saints is entirely fair. St Helens being further away from either Liverpool football club than Salford is from either Manchester club surely has an effect. There are a lot of Salfordians who live closer to Old Trafford than to the Willows, and now a lot more who live closer to Old Trafford than the new stadium.



In addition, Salford have got the biggest football club in Britain - possibly the biggest in Europe - on our doorstep and, to make matters worse, the second biggest club in Britain even closer - just the other end of the Trafford Road swing bridge, in fact.

To be fair the Etihad stadium is never full either so they must have a problem with that catchment area also?

Is that where the blue seats came from? Were they going cheap because some never got used at the Etihad?
