| In my experience Salford's fans only behave badly when they're driven to it! The frustration over signings and team selection has come to a head this year.
I think the Saints result, has in fact done the supporters no favours whatsoever. This is due to the fact that it showed that if the right team is picked and the players give their all just what they are capable of.
How many times has that come together this season? Maybe 4 or 5 times.
I'd like to compare us to Wakefield. A team who play well consistently, even in defeat, and are clearly well coached and motivated.
If a player like Myler makes it clear that he's moving on, Salford fans just won't wear it, especially if he appears to be having a poor game. How do you expect them to react.
As I've got older and been able to take a more objective view, I've been able to handle disappointment better than most. But, unlike some others who seem to have forgotten what it's like to be young and foolish, the reaction of our fans should be understandable.
They are PASSIONATE and showing it! Would you rather they stay away?

| Quote Prestwich Red="Prestwich Red"I do not normally stand in the shed but due to the weather I had no choice.
I could not honestly believe the $hite people were hurling at the players.
Do any of them actually know how to play the game.
Yes Myler (and he was not alone) had a bad game but booing and personal insults will not improve things.
I never do this at a match it is counter productive and makes things worse.
Yes I come on here and have a moan and get slagged for it but when I am at the game I support the team.
Looking round the shed now you see people who just seem intent on going to the Willows to get pi$$ed and have a go at the players and other fans and by that I mean Salford fans.
I had some behind me who most of the game had there backs to the match (probably best
) and then when Myler came off hurled abuse at him.
Carry on everyone you will eventually drive out what talent we have at the club'"
Well said P.R. like you said many just wanted to get p$$sed, do they go to away games? do they really support club or are they just on free tickets. We dont need there support nor do the club

| Quote Red Preacher="Red Preacher"I think that says so much BBM where you state the embarrassment felt by John & Howard due to the foul, abusive and more importantly I would suggest, the ill-educated and improper comments made by large swaithes of our fanbase. It is truly embarrassing that they behave in such a manner. I can fully appreciate people getting annoyed with certain aspects of our play but it is the way in which people go way over board with this. A small group have an average if not poor game and suddenly the whole team has had a terrible game. Rather sensationalistic and typical of today's tabloid generation.
Look, there seems to be an overiding belief that this whole team isn't playing upto scratch on the basis that they 'just don't care.' In most cases for the team last night i'd say that is utter poppycock. (Always wanted to use 'poppycock' in a sentence.) For me, it comes down toma very simple point. A LOT OF THE PLAYERS ARE JUST NOT GOOD ENOUGH! They are trying their hardest, maybe even too hard and at times, like last night, falling short of expectation put on them by others and themselves.
Let me use Myler as an example. Although I am sure the whole will he-won't he saga in regards to going to Wire has had a minor affect on him I genuinely believe that we are seeing the kid crack under the week in-week out pressure upon him. At other clubs in Super League they have the luxury of being able to put their young blokes into 1st grade gradually and ultimately tend to get a better return. We, due to a variety of factors just don't have that luxury hence we demand so much more of our young players.
To be reacting the way so many do to kids such as Myler I find to be beyond comprehension and quite frankly, a little spineless.. (The people chucking out the abuse and the beer, with hundreds/thousands of people around them would't dare repeat this 1 on 1.)
I've got heaps more I could talk about here right now, especially in regards to groups of fans that have confused 'passionate support' with unproductive, larish and loutish behaviour but I'll save that for another time.'"
great post Red Preacher. I agree with every single word and sentiment

If being passionate is not watching the game generally being pain$ in the , fooking about and then after not watching any of the play booing and abusing players then yes I wish they would stay away.
Maybe I am now a old fart but I can not ever remember being like that at a game when I was younger.

sorry PR, couldn't resist
and btw, I fully agree with you as well as Red Preacher, the behaviour of some people who attend games is nothing short of diabolical. Sadly, it's just a sign of the times and an indication of the total lack of respect for others in today's society as a whole.

| I know this is salfords board and its your arguement but if you dont mind I'd like to stick my two penny worth in.
Your side isn't bad. Now I know its not what you want it to be but no side is who is on their first season back in the SL. Last year we finished last but got some great wins over Leeds and St's. Sound familiar????
This year we are on the fringes of the playoff and thats steady progress. Something that Salford is infinately capable of.
Slagging the players isnt the route and isnt something I think Salford fans have a reputation for. Your squad is there or thereabouts the 12th/13th best in the SL and is performing according to potential. It will get better with stability and a new ground attracting players. EXACTLY like us!
As for Myler - you cant blame him if big clubs are after him. He wants to be where his ambitions for trophies and rep selection are and that isnt Salford at the moment. I'd have felt the same if Westerman had gone.
I think he should do two more years at Salford where the expectation on him is lower but thats his choice. But he is a support type half back who needs a dominant pack to excel. Ratchford isnt, he is less of an organiser but is more off the cuff - hence thats why I think he is a better option for the pack Salford have and will have for the next few years.
Anyway, best of luck - ive got a vested interest in Salford now Im teaching PE round the corner now!

| I think one of the main problems is that for some reason the way we played the last time we were promoted seemed better/ more commited. I may be wrong and I'm sure I am statistically, but I just don't remember us playing so poorly with what on paper seems a less talented team than what we have now. It may be that having won some games against teams like Saints, Leeds and the once mighty Bradford a large majority of our support have become to overly expectant.
As Red Preacher has said this team just aint good enough. Some people need to realise this.
As for booing Myler and others. I will never boo any player but lets face it they're all grown men if they can't take a bit of the rough side of the crowd then perhaps they're in the wrong job. If Myler thinks this is bad just wait till he's at wire and they start at him. Our boo boys are nothing in comparison to that lot. He should look on this as a learning environment

The people in question are disgusting in their continued attacks on certain players and officials and show a complete lack of any decency or common sense.
Are they genuine supporters? NO
Do they really support the club? NO
Are they on free tickets? Quite possibly.
Do they go to away games? Unfortunately some do usually drunk.
Do we need their support? NO
As has been stated previously everyone is entitled to their opinion but this does not entitle them to physically abuse or assault players or officials and this is what a small minority of people are doing.
These people would not/could not face players/officials in a meeting with other people present as some did last Monday they are just out and out dead legs who do not deserve to be associated with the club.
Last nights match was another that we could/should have won, the coach made a mistake (in my opinion)with his selection and he should and has taken responsibility for it it is just a pity that these morons will not accept responsibility for their own stupid actions/comments etc.

| I think there's a clear distinction to be made between the complete bellends we all know who are currently following the club and other, genuine supporters who will vent every now and then. I'm not condoning the pint throwing, nor am I condoning anything out and out vile and personal, but people will get frustrated and every now and then people will say something. Jesus, when Cas got that scrum last night (right in front of where we were stood) I gave the officials a bit of a verbal, erm, 'bashing' shall we say. As long as it doesn't boil over then there's nothing wrong with making your feelings known to players/officials. You'd be happy to praise them with just as much gusto if things went well.
As I've said, I'm not condoning the behaviour of what is, in reality, a small section of our support. But don't use it as a reason to decry everyone who makes their feelings known.

| agreed, dont think Myler had the best game, but with a small squad I think quite a few are carrying injuries.
No excuse for the abuse though,we all get frustrated, but we also know the s that follow us ,remember Wigan in the cup?
Having said that,if Myler does end up at Warrington,it wont be much different, just ask Matt King

| Just can not believe people throwing beer when its £2.50 a pint.
Watched the game from the club and all i can say the type of rugby we are playing is driving people away, I know it was poor conditions last night but it was the same for both teams, we did not cope for some reason. Well Warrington next week, where the only thing that is certain some cretin in the crowd will have a DRUM.
