| Quote Asim="Asim"Good question.
Seriously though it was in response to the earlier post saying that people from up the Aire Valley didn't consider themselves as having anything to do with Bradford.
Your other points could just as easily be attributed to the number of Bulls fans who couldn't be d to get off their backsides and travel to Valley Parade because it was no longer a 10 minute walk.'"
Clearly there are lazy people everywhere in Bradford!
Short of building a sports village in everyones back garden I don't see a solution that will please everyone.
Given the population and population density of Bradford in comparison Keighley there are potentially more people who will use a sports village in Odsal than in Keighley. The transport network gives easier access too. So it obviously makes more sense to build it there than up the Aire Valley.
The organisations in the partnership obviously can't afford to build two OSVs - we haven't got one built yet! I'm well aware of the parochialism of people in the Bradford district area whether they be from Keighley or south Bradford but it never fails to amaze me!

| Quote debaser="debaser"What is your point? People in the Aire Valley don't want to travel to Odsal to watch the Bulls or City? Because its too far? But they will stretch to VP, if they have to?
They have to build the stadium somewhere. Will City "fans" stop supporting them if they move to the "wrong" side of the city? Well some fans in that case.
They can all go and support Aire Valley United in that case.'"
You could apply that to Bulls fans moaning about having to travel to VP

Well Asim has already. Folk are going to moan wherever you build an "OSV". That's my point about parochialism. But if you look objectively you can see why Odsal seems like a good site in comparison with "somewhere up the Aire valley".

Of course you could.
So....
What do you want? A sporting village in Keighley? Bingley?

No.
And I don't think I'm on record as asking for one.
I would expect that leisure facilities should be raised to a high standard throughout the district, whether it be Odsal or Keighley.
Just for the record:
I am not against new lesiure facilities being built to serve South Bradford, however, if we're being honest, this is a being used as a trojan horse by the Bulls for new facilities for them.
If we accept this, then I am keen to know where will the money be coming from, keeping in mind that they already have accepted a £4.something million payout to look after their own destiny?

How can that site on the edge of a district be preferable to one in the centre? Unless you're thinking of making provision for Calderdale now?

I'm not aware of any sites in the centre of the district that are suitable.
Perhaps Odsal is the only site where the council owns land that of sufficient size? It's easy to reach from the city centre by road. It's not on green belt and is in no danger of flooding.
A new stadium next to the motorway network is a potential money spinner for the council too in case it wishes to bid for events, so maybe there is something in it for the non Bulls supporting taxpayer after all? The stadium development will give the council a bigger asset than it currently holds. The KC stadium in Hull is the base for a lot of positive work in the community where various projects and businesses have offices. This could be repeated in Bradford.
If the OSV ends up attracting people from Calderdale or Leeds or anywhere else then surely that's a good thing? They'll be swelling the coffers of Bradford council! That's another benefit to you!

Won't a lot of it be privately financed?

I've been teetotal for a day now.
Here's a map, and I reckon Odsal is more or less where the 6036 converges with the 641?

See that orangey circle with "BRADFORD" above it? Well, that's the centre. See the blue line with M606 which almost touches the orange line? Well, that's where Odsal is. It is almost directly central to the district. Unless you're suggesting that the middle of your map, which is Bingley Five Rise Locks, is the true "centre"?
Quote aj cougar="aj cougar"Edge of district by anyones standards.'"
Only about as much as Bradford City Centre itself is "edge of district". Which would make your point, er, well, to be polite, balderdash?
