| So a 14 year old kid get's a 1 shot penalty for slow play even though there were plenty of others going slower, Tiger Woods is gonna get disqualified for dropping a ball 2 yards the wrong way/signing for wrong score but Vijay Singh can use illegal drugs and still play? Gotta love golf eh?

| I'm a massive Tiger Woods fan but can't believe he got away with a 2 stroke penalty, anyone else would have been DQ'd for signing their scorecard wrong!
Hope he goes on to win still though, imagine the controversy

| Should be DQd. He admitted playing from the wrong place! He would go up in my estimation if he DQd himself!

| Quote Harrigan="Harrigan"You can't say that's the future of golf from 1 round by the kid. He's 14, playing as an amateur, in his 1st masters knowing that he has a very good chance of making the cut. I bet now he's in there won't be any time problems today. I wasn't saying he didn't deserve it by the way. I was just passing comment that he received it. It's not the norm either. 5 hour rounds are normal in majors because every shot means so much. You rarely get that in a regular PGA tour event.
And stop bring pedantic, it was late. You knew which hole I meant
'"
5 hour rounds are common place on the US tour - he is a very young player who should be capable of playing at a good pace. At the Wells Fargo the average time time was 4hr 40 mins.
Pedantic - no just correcting your errors

Why should he - why didn't the on course rules official or his playing partners point that out to Woods when he took an illegal drop?
This only came to light when a tv viewer point the error out - I suppose he didn't keep the point at which the ball crossed the hazard between himself and the hole?

| The stupid thing is, the officials reviewed it at the time and said it was ok. It's only Woods' press conference interview that made them take the decision to penalise him. It's a strange one. Tiger didn't know he was in the wrong because he was told he hadnt done anything wrong at the time. To me, it seems like the officials messed up and as they told him it was ok in the 1st place, they cant DQ him but to save face they have penalised him.

| The issue for me is there is only a select few players who would got away without being DQ. Also regarding the slow play they need to look at the rules regarding this. There are some very bad offenders who know there way around the rules and speed up and then slow back down.

I honestly believe the incident wasn't reviewed by the officials at the time, but they have found a handy way to keep the world No 1 in the competition

| If they tell him on course there's no penalty and then change their minds at night then how can you disqualify him though? He signed his card with the understanding what he did was ok. He didn't sign the card with the intention of cheating. It was only after the card had been signed that they decided maybe they made a mistake in the 1st place.

If they had or they hadn't, there are referees following every match who should pick up on it. Look at Dustin Johnson in the sand a couple of years back. If Tiger didnt realise he had made a mistake and the match referee didn't realise either (and lets face it, they should be watching how a player drops the ball) then I think a 2 shot penalty is the correct call.

From the interviews I have seen woods didn't get told on the course it was ok. I really do believe if this had occurred to some other player they would have been DQ.
He best not knock one of my bets out of the running!!! Would not be happy then

I still wouldn't have thought it had been fair, no matter who it was. ATEOTD he did something that he thought was legal. It turned out it wasn't. The referees didn't pick up on it and it wasn't even mentioned on TV, which it normally is if it's that blatant. If he was aware that he had signed a wrong score on his card then fair enough, like say for instance he miscounted and put down a 5 instead of a 6, but he signed for the score he posted and was only made aware of the error after.
His score has been rectified and it is what it should have been after his error. It's not like he has been let off.
