Quote fevfan76="fevfan76"To be honest I think if we win the league this year, then that can be deemed domination.
Anyone can win a cup game on their day. Being consistent over a full season is a different story.
Problem with our game is we reward these team who are better at cup/playoff rugby. Leeds Winning Grand final last year was a perfect example.'"
I think each prize has it's own merits.
Cup competions are out on their own as a knock out with there own brand of variables and drama and as far as the NRC is concerned has turned up some top encounters and is growing in stature within the game and praise from those who watch it = success.
To finish top of the league is a great accolade in it's own right and does need consistency and has an image reward, cash reward and home advantage in the play offs and the team that does it deserves them all.
The introduction of the play offs culminating in the Grand Final has given the comp extra life and has provided a different challenge than before for clubs and coaches alike and totally changes the old first past the post setup.
This involves and takes into account a full season which as well as the league table now includes the play offs and GF.
Injuries, dips in form, peaking at the right time etc which now goes beyond finnishing top and that is what teams are geared up to achieve to get to and win the GF and not to finnish top of the league table. and fall at the last hurdle.
The team that does that deserves to be called Champions and the team that does both like Fev last year deserve both accolades.
I for one would not want to change the system and would rather win the GF than finnish top of the league.
