The dream is one step closer life, in the mind's eye. Not the big rock cock on the hill. The dream of watching the Saints in a new home. On Sunday, Tony Colquitt spoke at length to Radio Murkeydive about the new stadium.
What he conveyed was mouthwatering.
Make no mistake, Mr Big (Eamonn McManus) and Top Cat (Tony Colquitt) clearly have a plan. The new stadium is a focus point of a business plan to get Saints out of haemorrhaging money and into an independent business, not relying on wealthy board members.
And damned right they should have.
What Top Cat divulged on Sunday really did make that plan seem foolproof. The stadium offers it all. We knew they had listened to the fans and put standing at either end. There will also be a small seated section there.
The main stand will be three tiers. Immediately this conjures up the idea of the North Stand at Old Trafford, however, we all know it will be much more modest. But within the main stand will be the club shop, and there are plans for a Heritage Museum and a cafe/bar.
The executive facilities are planned for being in use tear round, with conference facilities for 450 people. The club want the new stadium to be a centre point for the community, with plans for sections being used for community activities on non match days.
When asked about Knowsley Road, he used a diplomatic analogy.
"We all love Knowsley Road but from a business point of view I have always worked on the analogy that we possess a four-engined plane and only two are working"
I much prefer the less subtle, it's like a dog that keeps biting, you need to take it out back and put a bullet between it's eyes. Because let's face it, if Knowsley Road was a Trans Atlantic flight to America, we'd have crashed before getting half way.
All the plans are in cross the i's and dot the t's (yes, that's right) phase, and not a done deal... Yet. But it is looking exiting.
I can't wait to see the 3D model's!
